Lips
Lip Blush
$595 / up to 3 hours ~ price includes touch-up perfecting session if booked within 6-12 weeks of the initial appointment
Lip Blush is the most natural form of permanent lip tattooing. It enhances the beauty of the natural lip colour, improving the shape of the lips, giving definition and symmetry and the illusion of fullness without dramatically altering your appearance. Unlike traditional lip tattooing of the past, it is soft and fresh with no harsh outlines and brings a flush of colour and plumpness to your lips. A custom colour is mixed for each client based on their skin colour, undertones and existing lip shade. All you need is a slick of lip balm and you are ready for your day without having to give your lips a second thought. For the majority of our clients we suggest the Lip Blush for your initial procedure.
Lip Tint
$645 / up to 3.5 hours ~ price includes touch-up perfecting session if booked within 6-12 weeks of the initial appointment
This lip tattoo procedure more closely imitates the appearance of a full lipstick application. A Lip Tint is for those women who have warn the same shade lippy for the last 20 + years and know that they want to wear that same shade every day for at least the next 5 + years. Given the permanent nature of the procedure, you must give careful consideration to your colour selection in the lead up to your appointment and when consulting with your technician. We always suggest avoiding any hues that may look dated in a few months’ time.
Perfecting Session
Price included in initial appointment cost ~ for TBL clients only
For new clients, 2 sessions, 6-8 weeks apart is recommended for best results and is industry standard across the board. Sometimes just one treatment is sufficient, though a touch-up is always recommended to achieve optimum results. The perfecting session is not intended to change the shape created at your initial appointment and must be done within 6-12 weeks of your initial appointment.
At your “perfecting” session we assess how well your skin has retained the pigment and can make any adjustments needed. Touch ups are beneficial for layering the pigment for more saturation and definition and each result will differ from person to person. Touch up sessions must be completed within 3 months from the original session for the “touch up” pricing to be valid. If your cosmetic tattoo does not heal perfectly the first time, don’t worry. We can tweak things at your next session.
What should you do to prepare for your appointment?
Please arrive to your appointment with your makeup how you would normally wear it and if you have a lip colour / lipstick that you are wanting to replicate or any other colour references that may help with your pigment colour selection please bring these with you to your appointment. We also recommend bringing something warm to wear or put over yourself during your procedure
Some swelling and redness can be expected for the first 24-48 hours. How much swelling you will experience comes down to the individual. Some will only experience very minimal swelling and others will swell right up. If you know you are one to swell up or are concerned about it, you may prefer not to make any social plans and to organise a day or two off work after your enhancement (but that’s completely up to you and how self-conscious you are).
Due to safety reasons, children and or guests are not permitted in the treatment room at any time.
Lips must not be dry for the procedure. Keep them moisturised with a lip balm or Vaseline starting from 1 week prior to the procedure
Exfoliate the lips 1-2 days before the procedure using a soft toothbrush or DIY sugar/honey scrub
If you come to your appointment with any type of break out, rash, inflammation, abrasion, blemish, or bruise that is in the area that is to be worked on, we cannot proceed with the treatment and your appointment will need to be rescheduled
If you have previously suffered from cold sores or mouth ulcers it is essential that you consult with your GP prior to treatment. Lip Tattooing may aggravate this condition and cause an outbreak. Tattooing the lips will cause an outbreak even if you have had only one cold sore in the past and will create scar tissue which will substantially affect the end result of your tattoo
Do not wax, tweeze or thread the area for 1 week prior to your treatment
Avoid sun/tanning bed exposure for 2 weeks before and after your procedure. You cannot arrive to your appointment with a sunburnt face
Do not have any type of facials or peels within the 2 weeks prior to your appointment
Do not consume any stimulants such as caffeine in the 12 hours prior to your appointment
Do not consume alcohol in the 12 hours prior to your appointment
Discontinue active skincare 2 weeks before treatment (e.g. Vitamin A, chemical peels, prescribed skincare etc.)
Do not take aspirin, niacin, vitamin E or Ibuprofen 24 hours prior to procedure (do not cease regular medications unless under the advice of your GP)
Do not cease use of any medication before consulting with your GP
Do not consume alcohol on the day of your procedure
Do not have any injectables for 4-6 weeks prior to your appointment
Electrolysis treatments should be performed no less than 5 days prior to your appointment
IPL laser hair removal should be performed no less than 2 weeks prior to your appointment
Average healing time and process
Immediately after your procedure the area will appear bolder in colour and more sharply defined. You may experience swelling and redness which usually subsides within 24-48 hours.
Day 3-7 your lips will begin to peel/flake and may be itchy. Do not scratch or rub or pick at the area. During this process it is very important not to itch, pick or rub at your tattoo (this can cause your tattoo to heal patchy and touching the area can cause infection)
Day 10 tattoo has finished exfoliating and skin is smooth. Colour is soft. It takes 3-4 weeks for your new lip tattoo to heal completely and the pigment to resurface to its true colour.
Follow up appointments should be scheduled for 6-12 weeks after the initial procedure. New procedures are a two-step process and final results are not determined until the touch-up perfecting session. Do not judge your procedure while it is in the healing process.
Aftercare
Day of procedure:
Do not touch your tattoo unnecessarily and always wash your hands first
Blot the area with one of the aftercare pads included in your aftercare pack every hour following your procedure (there are 4 aftercare pads in the sachet)
Keep showers quick and avoid facing the showerhead. No soap, cleansers, cream, makeup or any other products other than the aftercare ointment are to be used on the treated area for 10 days
Makeup can be worn around but not on the area for a minimum of 10 days
Day 1:
You will be provided with a aftercare balm to apply throughout the day as required when lips start to feel “tight”. With a cotton bud apply a thin layer (rice grain size) of the aftercare balm.
To clean, lightly dampen a clean cotton round with tepid water and gently wipe over the lip area. Pat dry with a clean dry cotton round or paper towel and re-apply aftercare balm.
Swelling, redness and skin sensitivity is normal but shouldn’t last more than a day or two and should be minimal. If you begin to feel pain or discomfort from the site after three to four days of having been relatively pain free, this could be a sign of infection and you should seek medical advice
Day 2-10:
Continue to keep lips clean and apply aftercare balm 3-4 times daily or as required
Do not pick or pull at flaking skin as this can result in pigment loss and lead to permanent scarring.
How long will my lip tattoo last?
Depending on your selected colour, most of our clients won’t require maintenance on their lip tattoo for 2 – 3 years or longer. Cosmetic tattoos are considered permanent but will fade over time.
The longevity of colour in the skin cannot always be predicted and the frequency of touch-ups depends on a number of factors. Pigment may fade when a lighter pigment is used. Sun exposure, lifestyle, skin type, metabolism, medications, age, smoking, alcohol, and use of active skincare products such as Retin-A and Alpha-Hydroxy Acids (AHA’s) can all contribute to the longevity of your cosmetic tattoo.
We advocate for skin integrity and encourage you to hold off on any unnecessary touch-ups to maintain the integrity of your skin for as long as possible. Your skin has a limited capacity for the number of procedures it can withstand before the area becomes compromised and dull.
